Social media shows you the reward.
Not the receipt.
You see the channel with a million subscribers. You don't see the hundreds of videos nobody watched. You see the business working, not the years it took. You see the result, not the sacrifice.
And if you're not careful you start wanting the reward without ever pricing it.
I've fallen into that myself. When I started writing books I spent a lot of time picturing the finished thing. Holding it. My name on the cover. Helping someone. Making something that might outlast me.
What I didn't picture was the cost. The late nights. The weekends. The self-doubt. The easier things I could have been doing instead.
Nobody posts that part.
A colleague once told me he was thinking of starting a business. So I asked him: "What are you willing to give up?"
He looked confused. Nobody had asked him that.
We all think about what we want to gain. Almost none of us think about what it takes.
Every path costs something. Time. Comfort. Sometimes relationships.
That doesn't make the path wrong. It just means it has a price.
Choosing a direction isn't only asking "what do I get?" It's asking "what am I willing to pay?"
Because every choice costs something. Even doing nothing.
And doing nothing sends you a bill later.
