Rearranging your whole life for someone feels romantic at first. Like proof. That you care. That they matter.
But not every sacrifice is love. Sometimes it's the start of losing yourself.
Plans change. Goals slip. Studies get less important. Friendships get quieter. Standards get negotiable.
And at the time it feels normal. Beautiful, even.
It gets painful when the relationship becomes the whole plan.
Because relationships change. Sometimes love gets stronger. Sometimes it ends. And when it ends, some people don't only lose the relationship. They find they lost the direction they used to have for themselves.
I watched someone move cities, drop a course, and let a whole plan go quiet for a relationship, then rebuild all of it alone when it finished.
That's a hard place to be.
Love should influence your decisions. Of course it should. But there's a difference between love influencing your direction and love replacing it. One is connection. The other is disappearance.
You still need your own foundation. Not because you love them less. Because a relationship gets too heavy when one person becomes the entire future.
A healthy relationship doesn't ask anyone to abandon themselves so it can survive. It's two people walking the same way while still knowing who they are.
Neither one has to disappear.
Build your future around your values. Your character. Your direction. Then share it with someone who respects it.
Because people can leave. Circumstances change. The person who has to live with your choices is still you.
